Social Impacts of ICT

Social impacts of IT are negative and positive.

The negative side is that not many people talk to each other face to face; it is now mainly through texting or phone calls, also through things like Skype or FaceTime. Prior to IT people used to communicate through letters or a home phone call. The positives are that there is now more communication with one another than before because of instant messengers, such as Facebook Messenger, BBM or iMessage.

Another negative impact of IT socially is that people do not go out as much as they can communicate to people through instant messengers or social media sites; this is resulting on a rise of obesity as people do not need to leave the house to communicate with others from all over the world. The impact of IT upon local communities is that there is not a wider range of local high street shops that there used to be and now there is less of a demand for high street shops, as well as there being a wider range online it is also cheaper, this saves time and money for the customer.
