Phishing

The activity of defrauding an online account holder of financial information by posing as a legitimate company, phishing works by a malicious user sending bogus e-mails that seem to be from popular web sites or from sites that you trust, like your bank or credit card company. The e-mails, and the web sites they often direct you to, look official enough that they deceive many people into believing that they’re legitimate.

Sometimes the e-mail even refers to what looks like a legitimate web site but actually takes you to a fake site or a popup window that looks like the official site. Believing that these e-mails are legitimate, unsuspecting people too often respond to the e-mail’s requests for their credit card numbers, passwords, account details, or other personal information. The solution to phishing is to not respond to the emails, double check that you send your details to secure legitimate company or website, and to check that the Security Certificate is valid.
